Women, Spies And The Indian Army.

Through out history  women have been used to act as baits  to lure the opposing army officers into a honey trap where they can be exploited by the enemy. These femme fatales are there  as part of the weaponry of most secret outfits. However in case a officer is vigilant than he can avoid falling into the pits of these honey traps.

Unfortunately the Indian army has learnt a bitter lesson in two recent cases. One of them emerged in Bangladesh. One of the Indian Army officers who was undergoing the staff course at the Bangladesh staff college on military studies

fell into such a trap. The Officer a Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Army  was befriended by a beautiful lady at a function. Subsequently she lured the officer to a secret location for sex, where he was secretly photographed by agents of the Inter Services Intelligence of the Pakistan Army.

Unknown to the officer the concerned woman was a ISI agent . After a couple of meetings the officer was accosted by agents of the ISI who blackmailed the officer, by showing him photographs in compromising positions. He was asked to spy for Pakistan. The officer did the

next best thing and reported the matter to the Indian embassy. The Indian army promptly called the officer back from the course. As per last reports a court of Inquiry is on against the officer which is presided over by a very senior officer of the Indian army. The officer prima facie has violated the norms of conduct of officers with foreign nationals and will probably be punished. The name of the officer is not made public.

Earlier also another senior officer of the Indian Navy named  Commodore Sukhjinder Singh, while in Russia for liaison work in connection with the purchase of the aircraft carrier Goroshokov had similarly been befriended by a Russian woman. This woman was also a supposed agent of the Russian military police. Though the charges against the Commodore could not be proved, yet he was dismissed from the Navy.

These two incidents  show that officers of the Indian armed forces  are susciptible to overtures from foreign women. it is good that 2 have been caught, but what about many more who may not have been caught ?
