The BJP is a Hindu revivalist party, which has as its base the RSS (Rashtriya Swayam Seva Sangh). The RSS is known as a selfless organization that has in fact done a lot of good. But the BJP the political arm of the RSS and the successor of the erstwhile Jana Sangh has not lived up to its expectations.
The BJP came to power in the Southern state of Karnataka. But instead of ushering a high quality administration, it has allowed corruption and nepotism to flourish. The BJP leadership led by Advani have not shown the imagination expected of a party that professes a nationalist agenda and a corruption free administration. Advani in a desperate last ditch effort to become the Prime Minister in the winter of his life must be held accountable for this state of affairs. He has allowed the ideals of the RSS of selfless service to the nation to wither away. The RSS itself has to do a lot of soul searching, as it confronts the younger BJP leadership intent on making a pile. It cannot be a Nero when India burns.
The BJP is only a shadow of the party launched by Sham Prasad Mukherjee. It will take a long time to come to terms with its earlier ethos of self less service. As it stands another defeat at the hustings may occur. The BJP must understand that the people are not interested in a facsimile of the Congress.
