India has suffered a defeat in Australia and earlier India were thrashed in England. The seniors have failed and they must be blamed, but what about the selection committee that selected them? Surely the greater blame must come on them as well.
After the defeat in England it was thought that the selection committee headed by Shirrikant would shoulder the onerous responsibilty of taking Indian cricket forward. But these wise men let India down by again selecting the veterans like Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman for the home series against the West Indies. It isa known fact that the West indies areat the moment a weak team. Obviously the veterans hit runs and bolstered their averages with tall scores, but all along it was known that these were just flashes in the pan and Indian cricket was on a down slide.
The fact that surprises all is that the selection panel failed to blood in youngsters against weak teams and allowed the old timers to continue. This points to a sinsiter nexus and the selection committee has a lot to answer for. One wonders even after 3 test match defeats in Australia the same old players like Laxman were
Greg Chappell has pointed out that any selection panel should not be swayed by big names. They have a job to do and must do it in a professional manner. They are after being paid for the job. But the selection committee have failed in their primary duty. If the watch word is accountability then Krishanmachi Shrrikant and has band needs to be dismissed forthwith. In fact in case Shrrikant accepted moral responsibility and resigned immediately, would be an excellent signal for Indian cricket.. But such good things do not happen in Indian cricket and so the downslide in Indian cricket continues.
