Tendulkar Must Quit Now

Sachin Tendulkar has been on the cricket horizon for close to 22 years. He has performed in an average plus manner, nothing exceptional except in a team stacked with mediocre players he stood over all of them.  He has played 185 test matches and that is something tremendous, but the sad fact remains that except for personal milestones his contribution in Test cricket abroad on foreign soil is nothing much to be talked about.

Don Bradman and Viv Richards and not forgetting Headley the 'black Bradman' who won matches by the galore on their individual performances, Tendulkar is just not in

that class. One flaw was his concentration which wavered at crucial points, resulting in India crashing to defeats on foreign soil. He also failed to hit a triple hundred. Despite this he was India's best batsman from nearly a decade and a half.

The last 10 test matches have shown that Tendulkar is aging. His reflexes are not what they were and his getting bowled three times for paltry scores against New Zealand is not something that can be swept under the carpet. The fact is Tendulkar has done his time, his utility is suspect

and though he loves the game, we must remember the game is greater than an individual. India has to look at the future  and in that field Tendulkar is not the right choice to carry on. Touching 40 Tendulkar would like all Indian players before him like to continue playing for another 4/5 years. This cannot be allowed and his continuation in the team is suspect and not in the best interest of Indian cricket.

What should Tendulkar do ? I feel he has done his bit and must make way for youth. The world cup is coming in another 2 years and Tendulkar may not fill the bill. The sad part is that he could not lead India with his bat to a single series victory in West Indies, South Africa and Australia. This is not good news for people who tout that Tendulkar was a 'match winner'. Yes ! on Indian soil, but abroad his limitations were exposed. However in the Indian scenario he was good, but all the same its time to call it a day.
