A Picture Of Corruption The Congress Party

Some facts have come to my mind. A few days back I read in the national news papers that Kripa Shankar Singh the head of the Congress in Mumbai had resigned. This was not important as his position had become untenable after the defeat of the Congress in the local elections. But what was intriguing was that this man had come to Mumbai as a plain vendor from Utter Pradesh. He was then a poor man till he decided to join the Congress party. In a span of about 3 decades Kripa Shankar Singh has amassed assets worth hundreds of

crores. of Rupees. he is under investigation of the Anti-Corruption branch of the Mumbai police an dis liable for arrest as well. This is sad news that a man who could not get 2 square meals a day has risen up to become a man worth millions and also was the Dy Home Minister at one stage.

Surely something is wrong some where. The Congress party that has ruled India for the greater part of the last 64 years since the British went away has nurtered a nexus between corruption, graft and crime. One has only to scan the list of candidates selected for the UP elections to realize that the list containes hardened criminals, history sheeters and tax evaders. I am

afraid this is not something we can pin only on the Congress. Other parties are equally responsible. but the Congress is the party of Gandhi, who for all his faults was an extremely honest man. It was incumbent on this party to lead the way, but it has succumbed to the most vile temptations.

The situation is going from bad to worse. the stage has come when even cabinet ministers have gotton into the game. Men who are supposed to be the custodians of  wishes of the people have looted the state of billions. All this without batting an eyelid. And yet these men claim they are patriots. For every Raja, Pawar or Kalmadi, perhaps another 10 are unmasked. They sit behind the corriders of power salting away their billions in foreign banks.

What of the future ? Where do we go away from here ? Nobody can tell unless there is a peoples revolution. Ineffectual  fasts and dharna's by men like Anna Hazare will lead no where, the tentacles of corruption have eaten into the vitals of the political adminstrative system. I recollect that the great Chanakya had written that a people get the government they deserve. Is this the lot of the Indian people ? docile and insipid ? I shudder for an answer
