Napoleon And Hitler, Parallel Lives

Napoleon died in St Helena as a prisoner of the English and Hitler committed suicide to escape capture in 1945. Both men created a history of wars and destruction the effects of which outlived them. However there is a small difference, while Napoleon is regarded as great French hero, Hitler does not have that stature and is generally reviled.

A look at history will show that Napoleon at the time of his defeat at Waterloo in 1815, was the most hated man in Europe. The Prussians and other Europeans were waiting to hang Napoleon. Fearing death at the hands of the

Prussians Napoleon surrendered to the English. But within a couple of decades the French realized that Napoleon was a great hero and his body brought back to France and Paris. This was a volte face and a man reviled as a despot and tyrant was suddenly given the mantle of an hero. His victories at Austerliz and

other places were played up and he was credited a great general. His disasterous march on Russia in 1812 and subsequent defeat  is generally brushed aside. Also one other fact that he supported slavery of the Negro population in Haiti is generally not commented upon.

A look at Hitler also reveals the same life. He won some glorious victories for Germany and established complete control over Europe. He also like Napoleon committed a blunder by attacking Russia, which sealed his fate and led to his eventual defeat. Like Napoleon he was a racist and sent  Jews to death.

Hitler and Napoleon had similar lives and there is no guarantee that 100 years down the line Hitler may be resurrected like Napoleon as a great German hero. Anything is possible  , but a feeling grows that Hitler and Napoleon had similar lives and may be they were kinderd souls.Who knows ?
