Israel Is Isolated In The Middle East

The state of Israel was created in 1948 by a UN Mandate and areas which were predominent Arab were carved out for the state of Israel.  This was the onset of a bitter feud between the Arabs and the state of Israel. The Arabs were not prepared to recognize the israeli state and this  state of affairs continues even now though 63 hears have passed.

The Arabs did not help their cause by repeated defeats on the battle field and thus in successive wars in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973  suffered colossal defeats, though they had a numerical superiority of 3:1

in terms of man power and  quippment. The Arabs lost a lot of their lands and the Egyptians lost the Sinai desert. The Israeli occupation was right up to the Suez canal.

However Anwar Sadat who was President of Egypt realized that peace with Israel would be a help and in 1975 signed a peace treaty with Israel. Egypt thus broke  ranks with the other Arab states and in return the Israeli's vacated Sinai. Egypt also established diplomatic relations with Israel and as a reward received billions dollars as aid from the USA. This peace endured for 35 years.

The Israeli's also befriended Turkey, which is the only Muslim  country with a constitution that is secular in character. The Turks also established military relations with Isarel. But history moves in a cycle and one cannot always predict the cycle. The clock turned with the 'Arab Spring'. The demonstaters  ousted Hosni Mubarak

who had continued with the policy of Anwar Sadat of befriending Israel. However under the veneer of the liberals who were spear heading the agitations, the hardline Muslim brotherhood  and other extremist Muslim groups bided their time.

The ouster of Mubarak saw the 35 year old Israei - Egyptian pact in trouble. Agitations and demonstrations forced the Israei ambassador to flee cairo and till date he has not returned back. Thus Israel lost the one nation that had signed a peace treaty with them. Even in Turkey events took a turn with an Islamic party coming to power and it immediately went into reverse gear with Israel. Most contacts with israel were suspended and the Turks also tried to run the Israeli blockade of Gaza and lost 10 of their citizens ina gun battle with the Israeil navy.

The situation is now volatile and as can be seen Israel is a lonely soul in the Middle East. All the Arab nations and Iran are opposed it it and Hamas that  the terrorist  group in Gaza is sounding belligrant.

In such a situation ,  a match stick could ignite a war as the Israei's are  a frustrated lot and with Iran developing Nuclear wea[pons, the Israeli's are alarmed. The future of the Middle east is thus  hazy and any thing can happen.
