Human civilization has developed many folds in the last century than in the previous 2000 years. This development more in the field of science and new products has had an adverse effect. The cost on ecology of the planet is incalculable. Basically this development has resulted in releasing toxic wastes that have depleted the earth’s natural protection against solar radiation. Thus development by itself has no meaning in case it devastates the all around nature.
The result is that gases like Carbon dioxide, methane have increased as a proportion. This has resulted in rise of the earth’s temperature and is referredto as global warming.
Global warming is a serious phenomena and it is only in the last 50 years that scientists have been able to understand this phenomena.
The rise in the earth’s temperature by itself can be catastrophic in the long run. It will trigger in climate changes. This will result in the ice caps in the Polar Regions melting and this would mean a rise in sea levels. The result is that many archipelagos and islands in the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Ocean would be simply submerged. One can just imagine what will happen if island nations like the Maldives or the Pacific islands of Tahiti and Hawaii are
The warmers seas would also affect the formation of winds and currents, resulting in greater thunderstorms, tornadoes and Tsunami’s. These could wreck civilizations in the coastal areas. Global warming is not to be trifled with and urgent steps to combat it are required. The silver lining is that many scientist have recognized this phenomena and the world has awoken up from its slumber as recognition of the danger has dawned on the nations. But generally it is recognized that recognition of the danger is not enough and concerted steps are needed to tackle the problem like doing away with everything that can effect the ecology of aregion. in this the western nations are the biggest culprits and a rethink by them is essential
