Gaddafi is no more, he is dead after having ruled Libya for 42 years. But his death is no simple matter as it has rung a curtain on an era on a man who survived the rule of 6 US Presidents. Another matter that needs to be discussed is his death, which marked the complete negation of all human sentiments of propriety and conduct. The sad part is that his killers were Muslims, who perhaps believd in their faith. The Koran does not condone torure and assault, yet this is exactly what these so called fighers did. Another disturbing thoughtis that such acts take place only in MUslim ruled states. What is the connection ?
Gaddafi was captured after his convey was hit by a NATO air strike. I still cannot understand why NATO had to intervene in Libya ? Perhaps its a hangover of the past when England and France ruled the world. Now that the world has slipped from their grasp these nations have sought to make their presense felt by attacking Gaddafi and his army. They have supported a National Transitional Council which has been waging a war against Gaddafi. There is good reason to believe that without support of NATO, the NTC would never have won against Gaddafi. The NTC which is suppported by NATO is a motley collection of anti-Gaddafi persons professing divergent views from extreme Islamic fundamentalism to some form of pragmatism. This councilhas woefully failed in following simple canons of international law in the treatment of captured prisoners.
Who is responsible ? Obviously NATO powers led by the UK and France cannot absolve themselves of the conduct of NTC fighters. In case there is a trial for war crimes these people from NATO should also be tried. These fighters after they captured Gaddafi subjected him to in human torture. Video footage shows that the fightes also sosdomised Gaddafi and dragged him half naked across the road, till finally killing him. There is a pictiure of a man in a grey uniform holding Gaddafi from the back and doing the unthinkable.
I wonder whether the NTC is proud of such fighers. Again as I said this trait is peculiar to Islamic ruled states. The Arab spring which is supposed to herald democracy, is not going to bring any democracy. The Arabs have never had any tradition of democracy and having known only autocracy, the same system will re-emerge , albiet with a little refinement. As far as the UK and France is concerned a respounding slap on their face with the emergence of a hard line Islamic state will be just rewards for the monostrous crime they have perpetuated on Libya. As far as the fighters who sodomised and killed Gaddafi, the only road for them is hell. After all we must remember that God does dispense justice to all.
