Becoming A Pilot In The Indian Air Force

The IAF is a prestgious force and joining it as a pilot is a matter of prestige and recognition. There are 3 ways you can join the officer cadre of the IAF. Thus you can make your own plan as to how you wish to join the IAF and at what stage a) The first stage is just after passing out from 10+2 school. This is termed as higher secondary and the age limit is 16-19. It is important you have studied in the science stream with Maths. You can apply to the UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION(UPSC). A written examination
on all India basis will be held. Please be aware that over 100,000 boys take this exam. You will have to pass this test and come in the merit list. Only about 2000 of the top candidates are recommended for the next stage which consists

of a Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) and a Service Selection Board Interview. In case you flunk the PABT test you will be sent home. The SSB interview will last 4 days and those candidates that that pass the SSB will be recommended for training at the National Defence Academy at Khadakvasla, Pune. b) The second entry is known as Graduate entry. This is open to graduates who have studied science and maths. There is again a written examination followed by the Service Selection Board and PABT. c) The last stage is direct entry and is open to students who have requsite qualifications and have attended the NCC (National Cadet Corps)Air wing for 3 years and obtained the C certificate. Only NCC air wing are eligible. Such candidates are exempted from a written exam and proceed direct to the SSB interview. Any person wanting more information can contact me.
