Last year the outskirts of Oslo were filled with blood when a racist Anders Breivik went berserk and with his rifle shot 77 Norway citizens to death with his rifle. The man named Anders Breivik expressed no remorse and in the recently concluded trial gave a clenched fist salute as he claimed he acted in self defense.
The trial focussed on the aspect whether Anders was sane or insane. Prosecutors knowing that maximum punishment is only 21 years in prison in Norway had pressed that Anders be declared insane so that he could be incarcerated for life in a mental asylum.But the court ruled Anders as sane and awarded him 21 years in jail, with an option of release after 10 years as per the law in Norway.

The killer appeared in court in a dark suite with tie and smiled when the verdict was read out to him. Surely such a man deserved the death sentence, but in Norway this has not happened. The people of Norway must do some introspection and look at the overall scenario. Violent crime is rising with hate killings on top. Surely there must be a deterrent, but Norway may have to pay dearly in the future when more Anders may appear on the scene.
